A quick and easy summer refreshment made with fresh watermelon, mint, lime, and a touch of sweetener, perfect for cooling down on hot days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups cubed seedless watermelon (about 1.5 lbs / 680 g)
  • 1012 fresh mint leaves, washed and gently bruised
  • Juice of 1 large lime (about 2 tablespoons / 30 ml)
  • 2 cups cold, filtered water (480 ml)
  • 12 tablespoons simple syrup, honey, or agave syrup (1530 ml), adjusted to taste
  • Ice cubes (optional, for serving chilled)

Instructions

  1. Cut about 6 cups (1.5 lbs / 680 g) of seedless watermelon into cubes.
  2. Wash and gently bruise 10–12 fresh mint leaves by clapping them between your hands or crushing lightly with a spoon.
  3. Juice 1 large lime using a citrus juicer to yield about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of fresh juice.
  4. Place the watermelon cubes and bruised mint leaves in the blender.
  5. Add 2 cups (480 ml) of cold, filtered water.
  6. Blend on high speed for about 1 minute until completely smooth.
  7. Pour the blended liquid through a fine mesh strainer or sieve into a pitcher, pressing gently on the pulp to extract as much juice as possible.
  8. Discard the pulp or save for a smoothie if desired.
  9. Stir in the fresh lime juice and 1–2 tablespoons (15–30 ml) of your chosen sweetener.
  10. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  11. Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes before serving or pour over ice cubes for immediate refreshment.
  12. Serve in tall glasses garnished with a sprig of fresh mint or a thin lime wheel.

Notes

Use ripe, seedless watermelon for best sweetness. Gently bruise mint leaves to release aroma without bitterness. Straining ensures a smooth texture but can be skipped for a pulpy drink. For a fizzier version, mix with sparkling water before serving. Freeze watermelon cubes for ice to avoid dilution.
