A simple and effortless slow cooker apple butter recipe using just five ingredients, perfect for busy days and cozy mornings. This rich, silky spread offers a sweet-spiced flavor with minimal hands-on time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds (about 1.8 kg) apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (mix of Fuji and Granny Smith recommended)
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and chop 4 pounds of apples into roughly 1-inch pieces.
  2. Place chopped apples, 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves, and 2 tablespoons honey into the slow cooker. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours. Stir gently around hour 6 if desired.
  4. Check texture after 8 hours; if still chunky, cook 1-2 hours longer until thick and spreadable.
  5. Optional: Blend with an immersion blender or in batches for a smooth texture.
  6. Let cool, then spoon into clean jars or airtight containers. Store in the fridge up to 2 weeks or freeze up to 3 months.

Notes

For a vegan version, substitute honey with maple syrup. You can speed up cooking by cutting apples smaller and cooking on HIGH for 4-6 hours but watch to avoid burning. Adding a splash of fresh lemon juice brightens flavor if too sweet. Stir halfway through cooking to prevent sticking. Blending is optional depending on desired texture.
