A warm, comforting crockpot apple cider infused with cinnamon sticks and subtle spices, perfect for cozy autumn evenings and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 quarts (64 fl oz / 1.9 liters) pure apple cider
  • 3 medium apples, sliced (mix of Gala and Granny Smith preferred)
  • 4 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 68 whole cloves (optional)
  • Peel from half an orange, removed in wide strips
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) packed brown sugar
  • 45 allspice berries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and slice the apples into thin wedges, leaving the skin on.
  2. Remove wide strips of orange peel, avoiding the bitter white pith.
  3. Pour 2 quarts (64 fl oz / 1.9 L) of apple cider into the crockpot.
  4. Add sliced apples, 4 cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, allspice berries, and orange peel strips.
  5. Sprinkle in 1/4 cup (50 grams) packed brown sugar.
  6. Stir gently with a wooden spoon to dissolve sugar and distribute spices.
  7. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours.
  8. After 4 hours, taste and adjust sweetness by adding more brown sugar if desired.
  9. Remove cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, and orange peel strips before serving.
  10. Ladle warm cider into mugs and optionally garnish with a cinnamon stick or thin apple slice.

Notes

Use low heat to avoid burning sugars and preserve fresh apple flavor. Whole spices infuse flavor gently and are easier to remove. Taste after 4 hours to adjust sweetness. Keep crockpot covered during cooking to retain heat. Can be made on stovetop with careful low simmering for 1-2 hours. Store leftovers refrigerated up to 5 days and reheat gently.
