Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine (Tempranillo, Garnacha, or Merlot)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) orange liqueur (Cointreau, Triple Sec, or Grand Marnier)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) brandy (optional)
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) fresh orange juice (about 1 large orange)
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar (or honey/agave syrup)
  • 1 cup (150g) fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced (or frozen, thawed)
  • 1/2 cup (70g) fresh raspberries (or frozen, thawed)
  • 1/2 cup (70g) fresh blueberries (or frozen, thawed)
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced (with rind)
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 to 2 cups (240-480ml) lemon-lime soda, sparkling water, or club soda (add just before serving)
  • Mint leaves (optional garnish)
  • Extra berries or citrus slices for serving (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Slice the strawberries, orange, and lemon into thin rounds. If using frozen berries, thaw and drain excess liquid.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine red wine, orange liqueur, brandy (if using), orange juice, and sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  3. Add strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, orange slices, and lemon slices to the pitcher. Submerge fruit with a spoon.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (up to 24 hours) to let flavors meld.
  5. Just before serving, add lemon-lime soda, club soda, or sparkling water. Stir gently and taste; adjust sweetness or tartness as needed.
  6. Serve chilled in glasses (with ice if desired), scooping in plenty of fruit. Garnish with mint leaves and extra berries or citrus slices.

Notes

For best flavor, use a mid-range dry red wine and chill sangria for at least 2 hours. Add soda just before serving to keep it fizzy. Frozen berries work well—just thaw first. For a non-alcoholic version, use grape juice instead of wine and omit liqueur and brandy. Strain out fruit before storing leftovers to prevent mushiness.
