  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Β½ teaspoon salt
  • ΒΎ cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces (115g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 ΒΌ cups (250g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon pink gel food coloring
  • Powdered sugar, for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. Sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt into a medium bowl. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter, cream cheese, and granulated sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating fully after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract and pink gel food coloring until the color is uniform.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients on low speed just until combined. Avoid over-mixing.
  6. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour or up to overnight.
  7. Using a tablespoon or small cookie scoop, form dough balls and roll them between your palms to smooth. Generously coat each ball in powdered sugar.
  8. Place the coated dough balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set but centers look soft and cracks form on top.
  10. Let cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chilling the dough is essential to prevent spreading and to develop the chewy texture. Use gel food coloring to avoid altering dough consistency. Roll dough balls generously in powdered sugar for the signature crinkle effect. Avoid overbaking; cookies should look slightly underdone when removed from oven.
