This creamy chocolate avocado mousse is a healthy, decadent dessert topped with fresh berries and a hint of mint. It’s vegan, gluten-free, and comes together in under 20 minutes—perfect for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large ripe avocados, peeled and pitted (about 300g)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup almond milk (or any milk of choice: oat, dairy, or coconut)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 cup fresh mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional, if berries are tart)
  • Small handful of mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove pits, and scoop flesh into the blender. Discard any bruised or brown spots.
  2. Add unsweetened cocoa powder, maple syrup, almond milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt to the blender. Optionally, add 1 tablespoon melted dark chocolate for deeper flavor.
  3. Secure the blender lid and blend on high for 60–90 seconds. Stop, scrape down sides with a spatula, then blend again for 30 seconds until silky smooth.
  4. Taste the mousse. If desired, add more maple syrup for sweetness, more cocoa powder for thickness, or a splash more almond milk to thin.
  5. Transfer mousse to serving glasses or ramekins. Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (up to 2 hours).
  6. While mousse chills, wash berries and pat dry. Slice strawberries if using large ones. Toss berries in a bowl with lemon juice and maple syrup if desired. Let sit for 10–15 minutes.
  7. Spoon berries over chilled mousse. Garnish with mint leaves and a sprinkle of extra cocoa powder if desired.
  8. Serve immediately or keep chilled until ready to eat. Mousse holds up well for up to 24 hours in the fridge.

Notes

Use perfectly ripe avocados for best texture and flavor. Taste and adjust sweetness before chilling. For nut-free, use oat or coconut milk. Mousse can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours. For extra thickness, blend in a tablespoon of chia seeds. Presentation tip: layer mousse and berries in clear glasses for a parfait look.
