  • 4 skin-on salmon fillets, about 6 ounces each
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Red pepper flakes, optional, a pinch
  • 2 green onions, sliced thinly for garnish
  • Sesame seeds, optional, toasted for finishing touch

Instructions

  1. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season lightly with black pepper on both sides.
  2. In a small bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and rice vinegar. Stir well until blended and set aside.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet or cast iron pan over medium heat and add olive oil. Warm until shimmering but not smoking, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Place salmon fillets skin-side down in the pan and cook undisturbed for 4-5 minutes until the skin is crisp and the fish is halfway cooked.
  5. Carefully flip the salmon over using tongs or a spatula. Pour the honey garlic glaze evenly over each fillet.
  6. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, spooning glaze over the top occasionally as it thickens and caramelizes. The salmon should reach an internal temperature of about 125°F (52°C) for medium doneness.
  7. Remove salmon from the pan and transfer to plates. Spoon any remaining glaze from the pan over the fillets.
  8. Sprinkle sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds on top and serve immediately.

Notes

Keep heat at medium to prevent honey from burning. If glaze thickens too quickly, add a splash of water to loosen it. Avoid flipping salmon too early or too often to maintain a crispy skin and intact fillet. Salmon continues to cook after removal from heat, so pull it just shy of preferred doneness.
