This warm, spiced chai tea latte is the ultimate cozy beverage for chilly fall mornings or afternoons. Easy to make at home, it’s customizable and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 2 black tea bags (English Breakfast or Assam)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 thin slice of fresh ginger
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • 1 cup milk (whole milk or dairy-free alternatives like almond or oat milk)
  • 12 teaspoons sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or brown sugar)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, bring 1 ½ cups of water to a gentle boil.
  2. Add 2 black tea bags, 1 cinnamon stick, 2 cardamom pods, 2 cloves, 1 thin slice of fresh ginger, and 1 star anise (optional). Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. While the tea is brewing, heat 1 cup of milk in a separate saucepan over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  4. Strain the tea mixture using a fine mesh strainer to remove the spices and tea bags.
  5. Combine the strained tea with the warm milk. Add 1-2 teaspoons of sweetener (to taste) and ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir well.
  6. If desired, use a milk frother to create foam for the top of your latte.
  7. Pour into your favorite mug, top with a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg, and enjoy!

Notes

For a stronger chai flavor, let the spices simmer with the tea for an extra 2-3 minutes. Adjust sweetness to your liking and experiment with milk-to-tea ratios for creaminess.
