These cozy baked heart shaped donuts are a light, fluffy, and delicious homemade treat perfect for Valentine’s Day or any sweet occasion. They combine warm cinnamon and vanilla flavors in a baked, not fried, donut that feels like a warm hug.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons (8g) baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ¾ cup (180ml) milk (whole or almond)
  • 4 tablespoons (57g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup (67g) granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
  • 3 tablespoons (43g) unsalted butter, melted (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease your heart-shaped donut pan with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs until slightly frothy. Add the milk, melted and cooled butter, and vanilla extract. Mix gently.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture slowly, stirring with a spatula just until combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  5. Spoon the batter into the donut cavities, filling about ¾ full. This should take about 5 minutes.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the thickest part comes out clean and the tops spring back when lightly pressed.
  7. Let the donuts rest in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool.
  8. Mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Melt the butter in a small bowl.
  9. Brush each donut lightly with melted butter, then toss or sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  10. Serve warm for the best cozy experience.

Notes

Use King Arthur flour for best texture. For gluten-free, substitute with a 1:1 gluten-free baking flour blend. For dairy-free, use almond or oat milk and replace butter with coconut oil. Avoid overmixing the batter to keep donuts light and fluffy. Let melted butter cool before adding to wet ingredients to prevent cooking the eggs.
